Mental Wellbeing and Physical Health

Mental Wellbeing and Physical HealthAims and Outcomes of Mind Marvels
Pupils should know how to recognise and talk about their emotions, including having a varied vocabulary of words to use when talking about their own and others’ feelings.Mind Marvels introduce and develop children’s vocabulary for emotional literacy to express their feelings effectively.
Pupils should understand that there is a normal range of emotions (e.g. happiness, sadness, anger, fear, surprise, nervousness) and scale of emotions that all humans experience in relation to different experiences and situations.Mind Marvels demonstrate what goes on inside the brain so children can gain the vital understanding of how different feelings occur, how our brains react to different emotions and how this can feel inside.
Pupils should learn how to judge whether what they are feeling and how they are behaving is appropriate and proportionate.Mind Marvels explore positive affirmations to help calm and focus the mind and promote resilience.
Pupils should know that bullying has a negative and often lasting impact on mental wellbeing.Mind Marvels encourage children to see the best in others and treat everyone with kindness and understanding.
Pupils should understand the characteristics and mental and physical benefits of an active lifestyle.Mind Marvels aim to get children moving with gentle stretching, mindful movements and breathing exercises to help them self-regulate.
Pupils should know the importance of sufficient good quality sleep and simple self-care techniques such as rest for good health and that a lack of sleep can affect weight, mood and ability to learn.Mind Marvels aim to improve children’s quality of sleep by providing them with calming relaxation strategies to help them rest their heads and bodies.
Pupils should know where and how to seek support (including recognising the triggers for seeking support), including whom in school they should speak to if they are worried about their own or someone else’s mental wellbeing or ability to control their emotions.Mind Marvels ensure children are engaged in an environment that is respectful, caring and which promotes the sharing and understanding of feelings, to encourage healthy empowering friendships.
