The importance of looking after ourselves is weaved into every conversation – school dinners, adverts… it’s literally everywhere. But when was the last time you saw an advert about investing in our mental health? That question was what planted the seed for Mind Marvels.
Thinking back to my own experiences as a young person grew it further. As a child, I was always anxious and really struggled with regulating my emotions. There was no support or wellbeing toolbox taught at school to help me with this. Though we’ve come a long way, there is still very limited direct teaching about protecting your own mental health in schools. That’s why I wanted to make a difference and start bringing positive wellbeing directly to classrooms.
By teaching children about mental health and mental wellbeing, I realised that I could help them to build positive coping mechanisms and give them the tools they need to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
I founded Mind Marvels in 2018 while I was still a teacher (like I wasn’t busy enough!). But, it was a fantastic way to develop my methods and techniques as I could practise them in my classroom, and monitor the results.
As Mind Marvels gained momentum, I reduced my hours at school and went out into the community and also supported families. I then left teaching for good and, as they say, the rest is history! Mind Marvels has continued to grow, and I have been fully booked delivering wellbeing sessions in schools and nurseries throughout my area.
My dream now is to bring the benefits of our wellbeing sessions to more young people in different areas and I can’t possibly do that alone. That’s why it’s time to expand Mind Marvels and create a family that brings wellbeing support to schools and communities nationwide and to do that I need like minded people.
